First watercolour

First watercolour

A couple of days ago I posted my first watercolour which I painted over the weekend. Obviously I have been practicing during the days prior to this. However I found painting with watercolour after using pencil crayon very stressful. The speed you have to work at or at least I felt I had to work fast, and it took all the enjoyment out of the portrait. I am doing something wrong is it ok for the paint to dry while I am working with it or do I need to put more water with it (I could be talking about whiskey here and I nearly took to it). So many of you work with watercolour you must enjoy it, it cant be that stressful. I chose a well known face to paint first I wanted somebody who is easy to paint and has some character and we all recognize, I think I managed that. I did have a problem with skin tones, I used Vermillion Red and Yellow ochre for the main tones and added purple for the shadows, anybody have other ideas I would appreciate some skin tone tips if you dont mind sharing. Then I may just have another go at watercolours. Meanwhile I have started my next project and its back to pencil and crayon where I can be quite relaxed about it and consider my blood pressure. I have really come to admire all you watercolourists out there... Respect...
