Drawing without looking at the paper

After spending the past few weeks improving out drawing skills at art class last night's exercise was drawing without looking at the paper. It is designed to help hand eye co-ordination. I enjoyed it very much. The technique involves a lot of concentration but engages the creative rather than logical side of your brain. After a hard day a work I was glad of this, it was relaxing. Made my eyes ache from looking though. Working with drawing pen, slowing following the contours of a display of flowers. Of course I worked too quickly at first and made my subjects too far apart but by the end of the session I was getting in "the zone". I'd used a non waterproof pen and when I'd put a wash of colour on it didnt look too bad at all.
