In the process of painting this little sketch have found several ways to mix black without resorting to ready mixed black. I thought what would be the most notable black colour I've seen? Interestingly, the first that came to mind was Chinese and Japanese earthenware, as well as bronzes at the Ashmolean museum at Oxford. You can really enjoy that stuff since the Ashmolean is never crowded. Secondly , some places that can be occasionally crowded, like Calabrian beaches with their deep black /violet volcanic rock, mixing very interestingly with human flesh. Can anyone share one's favourite black?
