Ben the King
This is a watercolour of a rescue collie who is very well loved and trained in agility. Its a gift for the owners and as i usually work in pastel i thought I'd take myself out of my comfort zone and use Watercolour.
There is little doubt that when it comes to watercolour I am ham fisted and regularly use the colours from the palette and they are far too heavy. My work after has been washed out by the magnificent Eve Gregory!!! By watching other members at DSOA art society, layer and glaze their own compositions, I thought that I would settle down and work in that way. I was able to construct the fur and the expression on the eyes with care and it took considerable time to realise that the underlying colours change and were no longer black and white but had hues of lilacs, purples, blues and pinks...As the image grew the dog seemed to grow itself out of the paper and have a life...Not sure if I'll do it again but what a journey....
