Emma Montonen

Biography

Before moving to Dublin in the mid-nineties, I trained as a violinist in Helsinki. I've enjoyed drawing and painting since childhood, and I'm delighted to finally have managed to create time for art in my life as a mother and violin teacher - I run my own studio so life can be very busy at times! After attending some art classes directed by lovely local artist Anne McGill, I have mainly been learning by studying books and attending online courses, most recently completing the London Art College watercolour diploma course under the guidance of British watercolour artist Jem Bowden. I work mainly with water-based media, and my current artistic interests include watercolour portraiture and depicting my surroundings, especially the characterful Northside of Dublin.
