Watercolour on Saunders Waterford, quarter imperial. Marks stamped and added by using plastic rubbish. First of a planned series of paintings that I’ve named Children of the Sea. These paintings have live in my mind for over a year, but until now I did not have the skills to paint children the way I wanted, nor a clear idea of how to realise the idea that I had. I had a vision of these beautiful, innocent and unformed human beings facing the environmental catastrophe that is the plastic pollution of our seas. It is both a reflection on our children’s future and on the fact that by merely existing we seem to be contributing to the situation. I also wanted to create something beautiful out of something ugly.
