Harry, Thanks for your kind comment. I'm glad you like this. I enjoyed looking through your gallery. Richard

Oscar is travelling the world. Is this your trademark Richard? jx

Oscar does seem to appear in a lot of my paintings! He's not quite a "trademark", as he is not in all of them but he tries his best! R

Richard - I am sorry it has taken me so long to discover your portfolio - the paintings are delightful - I have been really impressed looking through them all.

Thanks, Julie. This is one of my favourite paintings and has now sold. Best wishes, Richard

I know this for very well indeed - what a superb painting ! I have so enjoyed browsing your gallery - wonderful !

Thanks, Beverley. Much appreciated. I've been surprised by just how many people know this place, especially as it is so off the beaten track. I was fortunate to have a really good reference for this painting; the light was amazing. Best wishes, Richard

My cousin lives in Eynsford, Kent and we visit every year, usually during the Christmas holidays, for a family reunion. We always have a wonderful time and eat very well! After a particularly good lunch in 2009, we went for a walk around the village and I took a number of photographs. The late afternoon light was fantastic, casting long shadows and was particularly interesting around the ford and 17th century bridge over the River Darent, which are the subjects of this painting. Eynsford was first documented in 864 and has three renowned sites: EynsfordCastle, LullingstoneCastle and a Roman villa. John Wesley is believed to have preached in Eynsford and the Wesley Stone near to the bridge commemorates the event. The Norman church in the background is dedicated to St. Martinand was the centre of an historic dispute between William de Eynsford and Thomas Becket. The old mill that straddles the river has an unusual, corrugated barrel roof. Once again, my favourite dog, Oscar, has crept into the picture, showing a keen interest in the three swans.
