Sabi Sand Siesta

You have really captured the look of the place. I lived in neighbouring Botswana which has similar vegetation and animals. Beautiful light and shadow.

Thanks, Leslie, for your kind comments. I must admit that I struggled with the vegetation, making a lot of changes to my references, which were rather uninspiring. I have always wanted to visit Botswana and it's on my "bucket list".

You are such a talented skilled artist, i envy your talent. really beautiful crisp painting.

Beautiful again Richard.

I have visited South Africa on several occasions over the years. However, in 2002 my wife and I visited for what turned out to be a fantastic vacation. Early on in our trip we spent some time at Richard Branson's wonderful private game reserve at Ulusaba in the Sabi Sand reserve, which is adjacent to the huge Kruger National Park. As we drove up to the reserve in our rented 4x4, we suddenly saw these two white rhinos snoozing very close to the side of the road. We stopped and spent a few minutes watching them and taking a few photos. The only reaction from the rhinos was to raise an eyelid to see who was disturbing their siesta. I have no idea what gender these two were and although more docile than their black cousins, I decided it was better not to try and find out! However, it was a fantastic start to our stay at Ulusaba, where we saw lots of game, including all of the "big five".
