This is lovely Paul. I cant tell which came first ...the title or the painting, but they are beautifully matched.

I'm curious, are you using the gesso as a base, and what does the gesso give you by using it? I like the effect...it's very different.

Hi Paul, thanks.

Hi Cheryl. I use the gesso in two ways. First is to use it as a heavy medium to highlight the light areas of the composition, then I water it down and use it as a wash which creates some wonderful effects as it reacts with the charcoal and pencil, then I apply the watercolour.

Great to read how you used that Gesso Paul, as has been said it has been really effective here, great little scene

This is lovely. I might give this idea a try.

I assume you are using heavy watercolour paper? Lovely use of medium. Do you prefer gesso to guache for example for the white?

What a lovely effect you've achieved here Paul, I love it. Have enjoyed looking at the latest additions to your gallery, keep them coming.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. Gudrun, I tend to use White Gouache as a 'finishing' medium over watercolour, mainly in the final stages of a piece, but I'll use gesso as a base or wash and then work the watercolour over the gesso. Thanks Val, It's great to be part of a creatively like-minded, and very talented community.
