Wow, this is very, very impressive. I have to say you are an artist with diverse talent. The only suggestion I have is: for people' anatomcal features, add a bit of muscle definition to avoid the appearance of stiffiness ( I mean the hand gestures in this painting).

Wow,that is a lovely portrait, a joy to look at.

I agree the portraits are lovely, delicate and to the point, well done I have not tried pen and ink as yet.

Looks like it will last forever. They should be pleased with this.

Congratulations Mia, this is lovely. You have captured Fiona beautifully. I too have attempted this portrait and agree with you Terry's features were very difficult to decipher from the photograph - I am sure the 'happy couple' will be delighted with this.

Mia, you should see my attempt !! Yours is excellent. You've captured their happiness and achieved a good likeness. I've had three attempts at this each effort going progressively worse! My daughter couldn't stop laughing at mine! My Terry looks like an ill Eamon Holmes! I can't give up now and I'm having another go ! I wont be posting them!! Louise

Mia, no one would believe this is your first attempt at portraiture! It's super, your colors are just gorgeous and your draughtsmanship, as usual, is excellent.

Mia I think this is brilliant, just enough detail. Great first attempt at portraits.

Noticed this immediately mia. So good. You have captured the happy glow to Fiona really well.

Fantastique Mia ....... mes felicitations! If this is a first attempt what will the futur bring ?!!

Well done Mia; just the right treatment for what was a difficult picture. The colours were so strong and lack of detail put me off trying it.

And you should not start it all over again. Brilliant work Mia. First attempt completed in style and very successfully!

Thank you all so very, very much for your positive comments. In one of my other portfolio's you can see my first pencil-portraits, but for this one I decided to use my pen and wash technique for the first time in a portrait (I don't know why!!! must have been a bit mad in the head!!). I made it rather difficult to myself, because it was an entry to a competition and I am so pleased that you all find it a success.

Best one I've seen so far for this comp. Well done.

I appreciate very much, thank you Fred.

Well Mia I haven't looked in for a while and I really wasn't going to take the time to comment but some of my favourite artists have posted some lovely work that cried out for comment, I think this is the best I have seen of the wedding photo challenge, your light touch is instantly recognised and so are your subjects , marvellous.

I had no idea how to tackle this portrait. I think yours is absolutely brilliant. Very well done. The happy couple should be delighted with this!

Thank you very much for your lovely comments, William and Julia. I am very flattered by all the positive feedback!!

I think you did ok + with Fionna, but Terry looks more like Eamom Holmes as Louise mentioned! and he did have a black suit on??? Now the rules for this competition are very vague, and I'm not sure if your post her voids your entry? I hope it does, because mine may have a chance of winning :-) I will only post my feeble effort if it doesn't null my entry? So come on Painters online get your act together and post proper competition rules! (and better prizes) There that's my entry in the bin!

Thank you very much for your "kind and diplomatic (!!!)" comment, James. By the way, Louise mentionned that "her" Terry looked like Eamon Holmes, not mine!!!

You don't see many pen and wash portraits so this one is a refreshing change. I think you have done a super job - keeping a light touch with just enough detail. They both look so happy and you have conveyed that in your painting. More portraits, Mia!!

Mia, can I clarify, MY Terry looks like Eamon Holmes, definately not yours ! Just setting the record straight. So many good comments here. Well done !

Thank you very much, Kirstie and Thea for your lovely comments. And yes, Louise, I know you said it was YOUR Terry, but James Lazzari was wrong in his comment. I also want to thank you very sincerely for defending me about my comment on that step-by-step-multiple-posting (that Roman man in his toga!) Did you see what she commented on her last postings of again the same drawing? No comments allowed!!!! or she will complain at the POL-administration! LOL!!! Why posting if you don't wan't any comment? If she wants to check the progression of her work, she can make some pictures and watch it on her computer or even better: take the drawing in front of a mirror!!! If we all would need so many postings just to make one work.... and it is still not finished!!!

Mia. thanks for dropping a note concerning my name at my site. I am elated you, Louise, Kirstie, Thea and others have blossomed greatly. I also have learned a lot from all of you. Your work is getting better and better, and I am truly impressed. Best regards. Ping

This is my favourite entry.

Thank you so very much, Angi. I am very, very flattered by your comment, because I think there are a lot of very good, beautiful entries. We just have to wait and see.

I had no idea you'd been drawn into this too. It's really good , especially Fiona. Many thanks for your comments on my "Painting of the Month". It's a great honour to have one chosen. I had one in the very first month they started doing it but nothing since and actually haven't felt any of my paintings since then to be good enough until this one. When I was informed, I guessed it had to be that one as its' about the only one I've been really happy with since doing that OCA course.

Thank you for your lovely comment on this, Diana. Well yes, I couldn't resist the challenge and I thaught: Why not?

this is a brilliant effort and a very very good likeness I did not know you were doing this one you are very daring

Thank you very much, Alan. Yes, I saw it as a real challenge to myself by doing the portrait in pen and wash.

Seen this portrait so many times and in so many different formats! I think the pen and was has given it great personality, well done!

Thanks, Debs, I appreciate your comment very much!

I've only just seen this! I think I must have blocked Terry and Fiona from my mind at the time, having quite failed to capture him because of the hopeless photograph we had to work with (well, it was! He looked like a mound of pink dough poking out of a suit and shirt...). Did not Satu Vertainen win, with a much more free interpretation than most of us thought of? Anyway, late to the game as I am, I thought this worthy of congratulations! You got much closer to Terry than I did - I found it surprising that features which are, after all, quite familiar were so very difficult to draw with any accuracy. And I really wish I'd never tried!

Sorry for the late answer, Robert. Thank you very much for your positive comment. I think Satu was a well deserved winner because it was impossible to get a real good portrait of Terry. Satu's version was the best solution to the problem.

My entry to the Terry and Fiona wedding picture. This is my first attempt to a pen and wash portrait. I am rather pleased with Fiona's portrait but the low resolution of the picture didn't show much detail, so Terry was a bit difficult!! I am not used to paint or draw men!!! Any comments are very welcome. I didn't dare to start it all over again.
