I was commissioned to do this and accepted somewhat against my better judgement because it's not my preferred subject being very detailed but no real centre of interest . I like simpler forms with interesting shapes and caste shadows so this has caused me 2 weeks of frustration after 2 days on site sketching in a larger format that seemed to show great promise but was really too much when reduced to the required size of 12x20".I also decided to paint in gouache on a prepared ground of pale yellow acrylic.

I'm an 81 year old retired surgeon . Art has been my lifelong obsession away from work and now my main focus in life together with woodwork. I enjoy creating and making in any medium but have always gravitated to drawing and watercolour. I've also had limited training in etching and sculpture.
