my penultimate year at school , we were footwear and hosiery, so not so bleak an outlook for us. This captures the atmosphere I have associated with the northern areas of those times - somewhat different these days !

Well illustrated Jim, a very atmospheric scene, I can almost smell it. I remember Sheffield in a similar way with all the steel works.

I really like it Jim, the monochrome certainly gives it that grimy feel.

The feeling of history is palpable in this one, Jim. I think it's one of your best. Love it! Brian

1950, I was eleven. Fog, smoke, grime, defined seasons, gas street lamps, chimneys, steeples, mills and factories abounding, hard times, the town of my birth. I've painted it in momochrome with faded black and some white patches, because it wasn't all lamp black. In truth, I loved every minute of it. Sort of abstract impressionist.
