I really like this Jim, Great portrait. I would love to be able to paint like this. Great gallery too.

Thanks Charles. Just keep painting and practising and above all, enjoy it. You're on the right track.

Afraid I do not know the connection/story/background - but I do like the painting

Mike, the subject is from C.S.Lewis's fantasy book and the film "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardsrobe" from his "Chronicals of Narnia" series. The character is Professor Digory Kirke, the owner of the wardrobe.

Good portrait, Jim.

Looking forward to the Lion and the Witch!

Some life in this Jim... nice job.

Great face. Excellent work. I didn't know the character, thanks for the info.

One of your best portraits Jim.

Great portrait Jim, one of your best.

Absolutely stunning, Jim, and exactly how I imagined CS Lewis' character. You've caught him so very well.

A lovely portrait painting Jim 😀

Thanks so much to all for the great comments. I use a few reference photos to get the character basics, but some face lend themselves so well to portraits, plus I've read the books and seen the films several times.

Really very good. Love the way you've painted this one.
