You're right Jim there's nothing quite like it. I like both the sketch and this one, they are evocative of the process. I cut, dried and gathered the peat for a season....hard work!

also saw peat being cut and stacked on the Galway visit , welcome memories . like the sketch in particular.

Once you encounter burning peat the odour ( a far from unpleasant one) never leaves you. Even now I can conjure up that rich odour from many years ago in Ireland where they used it for all sorts of things including fire fuel. . Ah, the memories ..(-:
