Bewilderment is a good comparison Jim. What did these brave young men, who as you say, just wanted ordinary lives for themselves and their families, think about when the realisation of what accepting the King’s shilling meant. They had visions of travel and adventures with their Pals, of making grand stories and history to tell their children and grandchildren. Some did, some died but what scars those adventures left on the living and the loved ones that were left behind. They felt they were doing the right thing.

We live free today, only because of them. They sacrificed all. Never to be forgotten but we wish they all could have lived. Lovely painting Jim.

Great tribute Jim, beautiful eyes.
