Great nostalgic image, Jim. Some of these old pipe smokers looked like they were lighting fire to get their pipes going.

Thanks Fiona and Lewis. My own dad was a cigarette man and never smoked a pipe, but Uncle Jack was a police sergeant and did and Uncle Andy was Irish and smoked a clay pipe. I was a heavy cigarette smoker, but gave up some nine years ago now. Never thought I would or could, but cost and public opinion won the day. Never touched one since.

A common sight ( and smell) in my younger days. I'll confess to disappointment at the cost and banning of the pipe almost disappearing before I got to sit on a bench miles from anywhere with my dog and enjoy a smoke. Couldn't find an accredit for the image I used, Probably RAFAELLE FRIGERIO? died 1948) but I loved it on sight. There's still fewer aromas finer that that of the fast disappearing tobacconist shops. Pencil and Watercolour 9 x 6 inches.
