We have a pair nesting at the bottom of the field next to us, in a Ivy covered Hawthorn tree. It’s been so funny watching their antics this last week as the farmer has been preparing the field for sowing. The amount of rooks, crows and seagulls this has attracted has been driving the Magpies mad, because the other birds are close to their nest site. I’ve named the male bird ‘Spartacus’.....he challenges and chases all comers! So funny for them to be on the receiving end for a change! One of my favourite birds, despite their bad press, and love your depiction.

Good painting Jim. I do like these birds but I feel protective about my tiny birds, they attacked a blue tit nest yesterday!
