Nice one - like the sea.

Always like your boat paintings Jim.

Like it Jim. One of these features in Patrick O'Brian's novels about Captain Jack Aubrey. He makes his name by capturing one of these Xebecs with his much smaller sloop. (A favorite series of books about the Napoleonic wars.) I'm not really up on these vessels...in the book it's referred to as 'Xebec-rigged'. Presumably referring to the sail and rigging layout.

Thanks Maureen and Sandra. Lew, the sail arrangements on Xebecs (yes, I also built one of them and still have it) is unique in as much as the sails on the two main masts can be rigged "gull-winged", ie, swung across left and right, so that both can catch the wind at the same time thus giving extra driving power/speed which made them so fast. (Imagine a butterfly). They were all about sail power and the masts were quite short while the sail-carrying cross spars were long and flexible like the sails of a windmill. Hope this makes sense..

Like your boat paintings Jim :)
