Alfie, ageing... by Jim Morris

Alfie, ageing...

A great painting of Alfie Jim. I've got an old one too, we think he's about 15, he was a rescue dog so we're not sure how old exactly but I can see he's failing now.

And this painting is as beautiful as he looks like a lovely dog.

Ah well, we all age, sadly .... I kept dogs for over 30 years, and have lost too many; enjoy them while they're here, I think, is the best advice. My oldest dog lived for 19 years - she died in 1979, her daughter died on the cusp of 1980 having never been the same since her mother died - and I remember them all these years later and always will. I have drawings of mum and daughter, which one of these days I must turn into paintings. It's been easier though to paint my landlord's dog - lovely little horror, but inevitably she means a little less to me than my own did. Anyway - I can't help noticing that Alfie bears a certain resemblance to you..........

Great painting of a lovely little friend.

Yes I can see you have captured your little friend easily without drawing. When you care for an animal day in day out you know every hair on their body and every expression and every whim don't you? I care for my daughter's dog Bonnie (Boogie) whilst Katy is at work. She (is about 12 or 13 (rescue dog so don't know age for sure) ...... anyway.....I still couldn't do a good job like this one if Alfie.

A lovely painting Jim

like us all, I suppose. My little friend is 12 now and looking a little grizzled. Did this yesterday, on the hoof, so to speak as he hates cameras..but he loves cheese...(-:Watercolour sketch without drawing.
