Thanks all. Paul, I use acrylic white where I can't use the white paper itself. Watercolour white often goes creamy (maybe it's just mine which isn't very expensive) so I use the acrylic instead, sometimes straight from the tube.

Is this Chawton in Jane Austen territory? Anyway you've got a super one here Jim

" Is this Chawton in Jane Austen territory?" It certainly is Derek, the Church of St Nicholas, where Jane Austen lived the last eight years of her too-short life. Chawton goes way way back in time as a village and Jane Austen's brother had a large manor house there..
