Ilam rock Dovedale, ink and stuff on A2

Comments

Hi Justin, thanks very much for your comment on my latest. I still use the woodies but sometimes I want a thinner line that you can get from the woodies. In fact I was using them today. Your ink and stuff is still working brilliant for you, love how you dealt with the trees and undergrowth. Dovedale was one of my favourite places to visit when I lived in Derbyshire, I still remember, with fondness, picking the leeches off my legs when I’d been in the river!

A great rendition of the rock, I tried to capture this some time ago and failed..

These delicate fingers of rock on opposite banks of the Dove are one of the scenic highlights of the dale. Amazingly, the 25m- high leaning finger of Ilam Rock has several rock climbing routes up its free-standing pillars of limestone formed when the softer rock was eaten away by the glacial meltwaters of the last Ice Age. Artist JMW Turner captured Ilam Rock in a popular painting, which undoubtedly contributed to our view of this as a sublime landscape and reinforced it as a place of interest to visit
