Prepared and Ready
7" x 12"Scows are a traditional class of small wooden boats raced in many places. Scows are clinker built wooden sailing boats, gaff rigged and wonderful top sail. The older scows are lovingly cared for. In the winter they a taken out of the water and dried out and repaired. Repairs can be extensive on older boats, almost rebuilt. In the spring, when they are returned to the water they leak until the wood swells again. In the summer they are kept in the water unless they become too heavy then they are taken out to dry a little. Light boats win races, leaking boats go slowly. With burgees in place (the small wind indicator falgs) these scows sit on their mooring on race day waiting for the crews.
