Gesso with acrylic ..... do you mean you used it as a white paint? Or more likely that you sloshed it on, and it dried too fast for you to even out the brush-strokes? If the latter, don't forget you can lightly sand acrylic gesso, and add further coats if you want to. I doubt that it'll matter too much if you varnish the painting; might even add a bit of texture, but this is a gorgeous painting of a great looking dog, so it doesn't need any extra help.. All your dog portraits are brilliant!

I love this portrait. It reminds me of a doberman that I used to have, she was a beautiful dog and Ii miss her. Thanks for the reminder.

Aww, I have just got two girl puppies left- that I am looking for homes for and one is taking similar shape to the boy I have painted : )

This is the first time I used gesso with acrylic, I didnt realise that it dried so quickly whilst I was painting in the conservatory and made a mess, but it looks okish until the light reflects on the awful brush strokes I made, lol!
