Hi Tom. This is a good painting. My husband agrees too - he recognised the radio! He was in the R.Sigs TA for 42 years retiring about four years ago. The biggest radio he ever operated was something called a D11 in the back of one of those old K9 radio vehicles. Happy days!

The actual painting is something I created from my memories of being a Radio Operator. I served in the army from '69 - '92. This is a 'self-portrait' of me in location around about 1972, operating the B70 radio. It could be shackled onto a tree, stood on a tripod, fitted in a chimney, etc. In Northern Ireland in '75 I operated it from a very thin mast tower above a police station.
