And sometimes it is, but not I think this time. Like this format - I've got a box of long canvases which I'm about to disinter; thought I'd have a crack at one with oils....

Two different approaches, hence different outcomes. However, I really like the flowing you have in this one: great colours.

It's super Sylvia, great painting.

It came out very well, Sylvia. I like it as much as I liked the sketch but looking at it as something different, not comparing. Well done.

I am so lucky to live here it really is one of the best kept secrets. I do like the landscape format Robert it works most times for me. Though I've just reversed another of theses canvases to a long portrait and attempted a sea scape....I think it's about to be painted over. Thanks for looking Mia, Marharet , Gudrun and Robert.

Lovely painting Sylvia. I know the feeling, particularly as I do not feel that Acrylic flows the way I want it to, but is is not obvious in this one. I feel the flow!

I think it is lovely Sylvia...I thought it was awatercolour at first. Very nice foreground work and I love the curve of the distant hills. Great sky too!

I tend to agree with Mia, it's a different painting although the same subject and I like this one for different reasons. It does have that 'flow' in fact it's rather organic.

I like the stone wall and the flowing colours in the landscape Sylvia, colourful but harmonious.

I really love the bolder palette in the version, very pretty X

Good to see the follow on acrylic painting from the sketch Sylvia. Lovely flowing lines in this ..a feeling of movement which I like. Also, the format works very well. Just goes to show how worthwhile it is to sketch outdoors from life whenever possible.

Thank you all once more. It is rewarding doing a pic from sketches. I have dozens of sketches so I must go dig some more out.

I don't feel you've lost anything here, you've developed the idea and in a very interesting way. It's very pleasing to look at, quite dreamlike. ( you didn't trace it did you! Ha ha)

Both good Sylvia this is my favourite though

Naughty Marjorie.....I laughed. Thank you Dennis ,

Very good, simple and very effective acrylic painting Sylvia.

Thank you John for looking and commenting.

Love the rhythm in this, Sylvia. Your colours are fresh and beautiful. Very relaxed scene. The format is so attractive too.

I did this acrylic painting the other day from the previous sketch. Sometimes I think something is lost in the "proper painting" Spontaneity , a more relaxed attitude, not a proper painting....plus the fact it was a tad cold.

About the Artist

Sylvia Evans. I am mainly a self taught artist, though I did spend a year at Rochdale School of Art in the late 1950’s. I was then made to get a “Proper Job” by my father, so I spent the next few years in a nursing career. I married and had a family, just picking up a pencil to amuse my…
