Actually you make a good point Syd, I thought you had drawn a very ugly lady...lol. But people with asthmatic tendencies could inhale the fine dust. I find I get very sore fingers when I use pastel , they dry my delicate digits and make them sore and cracked.

This is great Syd, I've only had a small dabble with pastels and can imagine lots of dust would be around when doing large pieces of work. It proved to be too messy for me.

Thanks for your comment Sylvia. you will note that the pastel teacher is wearing gauntlet gloves to protect her digits from degredation. Now theres another tip for you.

Thank you for your words Margaret. I believe Elfin Safety recommend pastel users wear masks due to the toxic natureof some of the pastel.ingrediants plusdangers to asthmatics as you have said. its a pity ,as pastel paintings are lovely when done by experts.

Made me laugh Syd. I can't cope with pastels. Ruins my nails :)

Remember the good old days when you could just do as you liked? Although someone did tell me about a Manchester professional pastelist who developed a reaction to pastel dust and now has to wear a mask and gloves when working. I suppose he cannot change medium now he is well known for pastel work.

Thought it was germ warfare Syd! Made me smile but then a lot of people can't tolerate the dust.

Another good laugh. Although I'm afraid that it rather mirrors my feelings about soft pastel - love it when someone else does it but it's not for me.
