Good job, I like the face particularly and the blues you used for the shirt and background though perhaps an area lighter in the background or some highlights on the shirt might have given all those darks a bit more balance.

When I don't know a person well enough to know if a portrait is a good likeness, I'm looking for a real person, expression, and character. This ticks all these boxes. Good work, Syd.

Nice portraits Syd looks really good well done

Well Syd, I think this is a better likeness to you than your previous selfie. A very good portrait indeed.

If you really darkened that background Syd ( burnt umber over the blue? ) the face would stand out and the two blues ( background and shirt) would separate. The portrait itself is very good and , as Lewis says, your character comes through.

Very skilfully done in watercolour, which I find very difficult.

Nicely done Sydney. Handsome fella .

Many thanks to Davd,Lewis,Dennis,Margaret, Marjorie and Carole for your very kind comments. Its The sort of thing which ecourages me to keep palnting. Thats the last selfie ive done .....acrylics and now watercolour which was the most difficult Marjorie i will now put a burnt umber glaze over the blue background which will become grey , thank you .

Sylvia you have just appeared when I was typing so I add my thanks to you too for that flattering comment, half of which I believe may be apt . lol

I like your portrait Syd. You have a very nice expression.

I’d like to know your secret to youthful looks Syd......a super self portrait and in a difficult medium.

Always nice to see a self portrait and this good one is no exception! The skin colours and features are very well painted. Just that background could be a little darker and possibly a few crease lines in your blue top? I agree with Fiona as well :)

Sandra Fiona and Louise I thank you very much for your encouraging comments My secret for youthful looks is to stand well away from the camera , take a photograph and paint from that so you cant see the lines. Will give the background a skimp of burnt umber to aid contrast and sort the shirt before I put the painting in the " done" drawer.

Thanks Carole glad you liked it.
