A beautiful pastel. I am more of a doggy person myself but your cat is so well painted I can almost hear it purr! The background looks fine to me and adds to it rather than detracts I think. Well done

This cat portrait looks excellent for its size, too bad cant get a closer look ! The background works gr8 too Sue.

Great portrait and I liked all your other paintings.

Thank you all for your comments - I'm new to the site and it's very reassuring to receive your thoughts. At the moment I'm experimenting with different papers and cards. It seems to me that landscapes work very well on pastel card which is very rough but I find that I can't get the detail on my animal portraits unless I use paper. Is this just me or do ther pastellists find this? Sue

Hi Sue, Before I saw your comments on your painting I just knew the cat was a british blue, we had one called lottie .The painting is just great well done!Neville

Many thanks Neville - British Blues are my main models - I have been breeding them for 15 years and they are excellent sitters :0) I have several prints and cards. There is something so special about them. Sue

Reminds me of Oscat a male EB who belonged to my sister...an absolute bruiser that terrorised his neighbourhood. A long while ago my Queenie....Recognised the breed from the small gallery thumbnail on the right. Well captured the background a bit too detailed perhaps?

Love this little character, reminds me very much of a cat I had some years ago called 'Moon'. It is beautifully captured. I like backgrounds to have detail. I remember that one of my art tutors once said the background is as important as the main subject...they can make or break the picture. My only comment would be the bright royal blue which has been used sparingly eitherside of teh cat's shoulders is a tad too bright and quite distracting from the main subject. Toning down the blue would stop the eye rushing there when viewing. You definitely have a talent for cats. Great work. Cheers ~ Anni

One of my first British Blue pictures in pastel. I was never sure if the background detracted from the cat - would welcome any comments/advice please. Sue
