Beautiful light effects

Hi, Sue. I agree with Lesley. It's a lovely image. I can see why you liked my (cartoon) swans -thank you. I assume you are from the borders - may I ask, did you know or hear of the artist Jim Page from Coldstream? (If so, please reply on my gallery somewhere, so I pick the message up) Thanks.

Hi, again, Sue. Thank you for your kind comments on my work. I'm not sure if you are referring to the 'card commissions' or my work in general, but there are no secrets to 'freshness' in a watercolour. Keep it full of light, use the white paper for white highlights, use a limited palette (I often stick to only 3 colours to ensure harmony), don't overwork (so you don't get 'mud', or too much detail). The cards, and 'teddies' in my galleries, are relatively small - no larger than A4 - and are reduced to make a card, so they also need to be simple, which requires 'freshness' or the image would be lost. Hope this helps. Now if only I could follow my own advice! In case you were wondering, Jim Page was a very dear friend of mine, who sadly died June 2009. He was very well known in the borders, and had works all over the place. I'd be surprised if you haven't seen some of it along the way, not necessarily knowing who he was.
