Hi Sue, I feel it certainly works better as a painting with the darkness in the background. Perhaps you feel that it is 'messy' because you used grey / black as a background. Perhaps you could try one using a different, more transparent dark colour as the shadow background? But for this one, I quite like it as it is. jx
