These steam trains were monsters to me during the blackout years, rushing through the blackness into the station platform....all lights out...we had to keep close to Mum, I can still recall the feel of her musquash coat clutched in my scared fist as we made our way into the carriage in total blackness. The scarlet sparks were vivid against the darkness.
