Most paintings of this lovely North Yorkshire village are looking out to sea. This points the other direction, which is rarely seen. It was an extremely cold January afternoon when I took the photograph. It was far too cold for me to consider plein air! There wasn't a tourist in sight - apart from us - and this created an almost spooky atmoshpere.
