Good and more accurate attempt than mine Stephen, but maybe if need to be busier and with stronger tones.

Many thanks for your comments Dennis. These Southern Hemisphere artists are all very bold with their tones aren't they? Probably as they are brought up in strong sunshine in Argentina and Australia! That's what I meant about learning a little about shadows, I must try to be bolder!

Its turn out beautifully!!

A very good effort Stephen, and its success is almost certainly down to your strong tonal range and aerial perspective, top marks for this one.

Great piece in its own right Stephen but Alvaro does emphasise the darkness give the light

Many thanks, Linda, Alan and Dennis for your comments. regarding the tone, I have added stronger washes in the shadow areas but it now looks a bit dull, that's the problem with watercolour!

Absolutely Stephen, it always pays to be bold and go that bit darker than you think. You can always go over parts again of course once it has been left to dry overnight to be safe and stop it lifting.

You have achieved amazing light in this one, Stephen, and all the figures add a lot of life as well.

Many thanks once again Alan and Thea.

Like this one Stephen

I am guessing you have altered this Stephen and all to the good.

You've done a super job with the light, Stephen. Well done!

Many thanks once again, Derek and Seok. You realise how good some of these watercolourists are when you try to copy their work!

Another attempt at the painting in I the advice to do a careful pencil first I launched in with the brush . Although. It's rough and ready I think I learned a little about shadows.

About the Artist
Stephen Slater

I am a self taught amateur painter, I mostly paint landscapes in watercolour but I 'dabble' in other mediums from time to time. I really enjoy my art, especially painting outdoors when the weather allows.
