Lovely painting Stephen, very busy scene and lovely characters

Smashing work Stephen and some super figures in the composition. I think I would crop the foreground.

The composition is very good Stephen. Not overloaded with detail, just the right amount, figures overlapping are very good. Agree with Derek, lower cropping, and it's Bob on.

Love the little figures and the colours and composition.

Many thanks everyone for your encouraging comments. I wouldn't have thought of it but Inthink Derek is right, it does look better with a little cropping at the bottom.

My problem is the opposite - what to leave in Lol . Anyway this is superbly done Stephen - perhaps a bit more exaggeration to anchor the people but small point to make.

Good perspective and composition Stephen. A good variety of figures.

Many thanks Michael and Peter.

Lovely Stephen it has a bit of a Lowry feel to it I think.

Good figure work Stephen. All walking up and down the narrow Whitby road and no traffic ! Ice cream shops as well :)

Many thanks, Dennis, Louise and John. I went to the Lowry gallery in Salford on Friday, listened to an interesting half hour talk on him. Apparently he took art lessons for over twenty years, part time, so much for people thinking he was just am amateur. He pointed out a few very early ones, which have a more Impressionist feel, which I personally prefer.

Michael has a good point too, achoring the figures would improve it a touch.

Many thanks Derek and Margaret. Interesting that the photograph was taken on quite a dull day, so there is little or no shadow but it seems ok, in a painting we expect some shadow, I agree this would look better with more shadow but why?

From a recent photo, I always struggle with what to leave out, painting a busy scene from a photo.
