What a lovely calm and unfussy feel this painting has. I like all the smooth washes and the addition of the little figure gives scale to the work. Great trees, as well.

This works so well Stephen especially the large foreground.

Many thanks Thea and Michael for your encouraging comments. I think Mr. Newton must have given this much thought before painting this apparently 'simple' scene.

Stephen, I have deleted my painting that was posted next to this one of yours because looking at it in the cold light of day, it really was a terrible photo of it. I am going to try again and will re- post it later. Thank you for your kind comment on it which I will acknowledge when it is re-posted. Just wanted to explain why it vanished.

I don't suppose copyright allows you to post the original from the book but it looks as if you have made an excellent copy with nice control of washes in the sky

many thanks once again Thea and Alan, it's worth seeing the original Alan, I think you can probably get the book out of the library.

Lovely work, Stephen. You handled the light and the washes beautifully.

Many thanks once again Seok.

Good work Stephen. Great colours and wintery atmosphere.

From a book of paintings by William Newton I was given as a Christmas present, I really like his work.
