Hmmm.... well, Eugene Galien-Laloue was born in 1854 and died in 1941, and this painting is very typical of his work, but I can't immediately find Winter Flowers (Béatrice: would that be Fleurs d'Hiver? it's been a long time since I studied French). Have a look on the internet, you're bound to find something. His paintings of Paris street scenes are wonderful, but I like the smaller number of countryside paintings.

A great painting. Very interesting to look at. I agree it does pay to watch out for good second hand frames.

I bought a decent frame from the local market a couple of weeks ago for Â£2. I was intending to remove the print and replace it with one of my own pictures - framing on the cheap! However, I was taken by the print of a Parisian street scene called Winter Flowers by Eugene G-Laloue. I had already sketched out a local street scene ready for painting and I wondered if I could do it in the style of Laloue. At Art Group today, I tried to copy the picture in acrylic paint. It was quite detailed but I managed to achieve this in the 2 hours or so available. It is A4 size but I have been unable to discover how big the original was. Anyone any idea?
