I know what you mean exactly Sophie. Although it's best to let the water and pigment mingle, sometimes we want more control over some areas and then it's so easy to mess it up. This piece has a nice balance of details and loose washes. I especially like the back run effects.

I often find water the hardest thing to paint in watercolour, which is ironic! In this painting i wanted to keep it loose and use varying hues of blue to indicate the flow and movement of the ocean without getting bogged down in detail and making it overworked
