Much Wenlck Priory by Simon Crump

Much Wenlck Priory

A couple of super posts. The studies are very atmospheric and lively.

Super work Simon, very attractive painting

No criticism of this one - do you work these sketches up into single sheets of paper? This one would work well - the treatment of the stonework in particular conveys the age of these buildings without any fuss or excess of detail.

Thanks for your kind comments. I use a small sketchpad as a sort of visual diary. I have a problem when trying to do a more careful study where everything gets too tight and all the spontaneity is lost. Any suggestions anyone?

I live about 5 miles from Much Wenlock - a lovely little Tudor town and the Priory is an amazing building. You have certainly done it justice with this lovely pen and wash. I do like your style.

You are lucky Thea! We spent an idyllic weekend camping nearby. Could spend a lifetime sketching there! Thank you.

Delightful study! I know what you mean about getting too tight when painting from your sketches later. It is tempting to "overdo" the colour and lose the spontaneity. May I suggest you paint your sketches on a large pad and not into a book.
