Great dog - you've conveyed his intelligence and character.

Incidentally, Sheila - many years ago, my mother employed a lady to manage her draper's shop; this lady had a dog like this, who was content to doze beneath the counter for most of the day until she could enjoy a good walk at the end of it. One day, some drug-crazed youth made the mistake of demanding the contents of the till; refused, he advanced menacingly around the counter: dog woke up - stood up - snarled, most effectively. Youth disappeared at fantastically impressive speed. Dog just wandered to the entrance of the shop, gazing reflectively after him and, you could have sworn, just shaking her head.... I like all dogs, slightly short of idolatry. But have had a particular respect for this breed ever since.

What wonderful life, colour and light you have got into this portrait. This dog looks so real, but your interpretation has a lovely looseness to it - admire you skill in doing this. Super dog as well - looks a real friend.

Beautiful painting of a beautiful dog.

Beautiful portrait, we have a lovely boy like this too.

Thankyou all for your comments, sadly he has left us but with many fond and happy memories. To Robert, we had a similar occasion with Angus. The meter reader knocked on our door to inquire if the dog was inside as he had written on his sheet that "Dog will let you into the garden but won't let you out again" conjures up quite some images!!!
