Whoops, Nice!

I understand your point about the patience - there are things I would unhesitatingly have tackled 40 years ago (not necessarily for the better..) which I just haven't the mental energy for today. I don't think anyone's going to mind your showing a golden oldie - indeed, why would we? It's always interesting to see early work, compared to what you're doing today; and this is a very pleasing painting, which I imagine brings back a host of memories for you.

Lovely painting, like it a lot !!

I like to see older work, this is a very pleasing painting. Time changes how we paint, and how we’re physically able to paint. A pleasure to see this.

It’s a very pleasing painting Shaun and so interesting to compare old styles with your present way of painting. We learn to realise that very often less is more and details are superfluous to the overall result. I think we have a more emotional attachment to work as we get older and our perspective shifts quite dramatically, as you have demonstrated here. Thank you for sharing this interesting comparison.

A superb piece, really pleased you posted it . How we change over the years always amazes me, sometimes I think I wish I still painted like that , but have difficulty replicating my old work, eyr sight , hands , concentrate etc not the same anymore.

What a great response - so much consideration has gone into the replies and I really appreciate them. Thank you so much.

Lovely work Shaun.

I hope you don’t mind me posting this as it’s a painting I did 40years ago. It’s quite large 30x22ins. I don’t have the patience to paint like this and in the same detail.

About the Artist
Shaun Byatt

I try to achieve vibrant colours in my paintings. I work intuitively with large flat brushes - I also try not to overwork my pictures and they are often completed in two sittings. I use good quality acrylics because of their excellent pigment content. I like to interpret what i see in front of me…
