Hortensia with white bowls by Sharon Van Der Veen

Hortensia with white bowls

Beautifully composed and painted. Loose but not too loose and those white bowls are perfect.

Gorgeous background, wonderful shades of blue/purple. Great still life Sharon.

i agree with the above, Sharon, particularly the comments re the lovely white bowls and the gorgeous background - all beautifully observed and rendered, (as are the subjects in your other three paintings).

A really beautiful and elegant painting Sharon!

Another gorgeous watercolour Sharon, full of skill.

There is something very compelling about painting something white, especially in watercolour. I love your treatment of the stack of bowls and the flower on top is wonderfully well painted - super colours in the petals and leaves. Lovely work.

Really beautiful and sensitive. The coolness captures the essence of Hortensia perfectly.

Thank you all for your encouragement. I actually sold this picture in the meantime, which for me is quite an achievement ! Feel now that I have given my baby away, do others also have difficulty in parting with paintings ? This is new for me.

I am afraid I am guilty in my own work of pandering to taste - I paint mostly village scenes and am fairly successful locally with both sales and commissions but in my heart of hearts I would like to do more 'loose' work so I have to strike a balance. You say above that you are trying to get a bit looser but in your case I have to ask why? This is a superb painting demonstrating both good techniques and a great sense of composition. Look forward to seeing more along these lines.

Delicate and intense at the same time. I like the flower very much. Michelle

Wonderful! Very delicate Sharon, and super washes.
