Veiled History
Window of a restored building in Plaza Vieja, Havana, Cuba. Plaza Vieja was one of the squares in Old Havana set up during Spanish rule in Cuba. The houses on the square were once occupied by the wealthy citizens of Havana, but when they moved out to avoid overcrowding in the city, the buildings fell into disrepair and were occupied by people who could not afford to restore them. This particular two-storey building was once occupied by as many as 140 people comprising 10 families. When the Cuban government finally restored it, many of the people living in there were relocated. Painted en plein air.
