The Gate on the Edge by David Cotton
The air at the edge of the valley always smelled of wild poppies and damp earth. The weathered wooden gate is the sentry between the untamed meadows and the rolling hills beyond. The misty sky bleeds softly into the horizon. The atmospheric forest stretches for miles, while the clouds appear ready to break. Legend says that this gate wasn't built to keep anything out, but to remind travellers to pause, for a moment.
