The 'Always Open' Front Door

I think this is the first interior i have seen in a while here and it struck a chord with me. There are still places where people leave their doors open - just returned from a lovely seaside village called Roundstone in Connemara where old houses on the main street had doors open and the shops all closed for few hours one afternoon for local funeral. Lovely painting

Thank you for your comment Norah. I think I should go to Rounstone - it sounds the right sort of place to be! I am surprised though, that people still feel safe to live in this way today. Good, that they can!

just one of those places and Im sure nowhere is perfect but it is a lovely place, have a look of paintings by John Dinan, or the" back lane painters" - roundstone is a well kept secret and only busy in july and aug for all the art festivals and boat regattas. That village where Doc Martin is made reminds me of it - beautiful places in UK if only time to take off and travel, maybe someday soon

I think, Norah, this is probably one of my most sentimental pictures This place was my home all my life till I moved away and my mother stayed there until she died. I have tried to reproduce this as a more formal painting several times, but the results have not been very successful. The village where Doc Martin is seems to be a lovely place. Roundstone sounds my cup of tea. I would love to go somewhere like that. The Outer Hebrides I think are similar. Mull used to be about 10 years ago when I last stayed there...

Drawn from inside this is the picture of the front door of my mother's home. She always had it open whatever the weather 'so the dogs could get out and the visitor come in!' The 'Always Open' front door was a bit of an icon of my mother and the past when you could do this. Water colour and pencil.
