Tawny owl chick

Tawny owl chick

Ah - many years ago, we found a clutch of tawny owl chicks in a Victorian fort we used to visit, since demolished by a philistine parish council (Freshwater, to be precise: as someone with a connection to the Isle of Wight, you may know of it). My father rescued them, because they were orphaned - brought them up, fed them, let them go: except for one who wouldn't leave .... afraid there's no happy ending here, he fed the owl with meat on which it choked and died.... Your drawing brings that little feller back very painfully.

Which just goes to show how accurate your drawing is, because this is our owl who was reluctant to leave, and sadly never made it.

Beautiful drawing Sarah. Which pencils did you use?

I'm glad Robert that hopefully I have brought some happy memories of that special time of rescuing the Tawny owl chicks, it's a shame the other one didn't make it.

Carole, I used mainly Caran D-Ache Grafwood graphite pencils ranging from 4B to 2H. I will soon be writing a blog post on some other graphite pencils that I have been trying out. Watch out for it on http://thenaturalyear.blogspot.co.uk/
