Wow Ruth this is superb, I am blown away.

Gorgeous washes Ruth.

The light, the colours, the composition and the varying degrees of definition all combine to make a beautiful painting Ruth. Congratulations on a stunning portfolio altogether, there are some great images in there. Some very reminiscent of the style of Eva Karpinska, one of my favourite watercolourists. Are you familiar with her work - I'm sure you'd love it.

Thank you so much for the lovely, encouraging comments. Sharon, I do love Eva Karpinska and have her books and dvd. The dvd is in French so I don't understand much of her verbal advice but at least you can watch her demonstrate. There are some amazing French watercolourists such as Reine-Marie Pinchon, Jerome Cosse and Dominique Coppe who have a similar technique. They all seem to know exactly the right timing for dropping water into a wash to make delicate halos. They also understand the science of granulation. I have been working on the technique but have a long way to go!

I think you're up there with them ! You have some great paintings. Modern French/Belgian watercolours are quite different to the quintessential English style - perhaps more adventurous ? with an emphasis on wet in wet work. And as you say, they tend to take pigment/colour theory more into account. Both ways of working have their charm, and my impression from your portfolio is that you do well on both fronts. Look forward to seeing some more of yours.

Great works and control of the medium Ruth, I can see where the comment about Eva Karpinska comes from. Lovely portfolio of watercolours.

Thank you very much Christopher and thank you Sharon for all your comments.
