My mother dotes on pigs - not sure why! So I look forward to seeing your painting and directing her attention to it. Actually, a pig once chased my father out of a field, which perhaps explain's mother's affection for them... Ferocious can, indeed, be the word for them.

A pencil sketch for a planned painting...which will be much brighter in colour, I hope. But no, Julia, it won't be pink this time! The mother sow is a black breed but her piglet has a bright coat. Sketch is A5. The sow's eye is very slightly open, (I need to adjust my sketch here) with a tiny gleam in it...warning the photographer, I think, as pigs can be ferociously protective mothers.
