Castle Coch...not mine!

Castle Coch...not mine!

I live near this castle, Roger. I pass it every week when I paint with Arnold Lowrey. It is a beautiful castle inside and out. Cardiff castle was decorated by the same guy . Cardiff originally was built by the Romans though. Then it was improved by the Normans (or someone not Roman!!) ? Then the Welsh staked a claim to it, calling it theirs! Cheek! ( I am Welsh, but not a fanatic!) I believe your lot then took over the decorating, which is really beautiful. The Marquis of Bute used his money made from the coal mines to do the work and also had Castle Coch built. The gist in a nutshell!

P.S. Turner visited this area (roughly ) and did some of his paintings hereabouts. Arnold's website probably has a few paintings of this castle. He lives a mile or two away from it. Have a look!

This painting is by the late Wilfred Sirrell, architect and FRSA. I post it out of interest to anyone who knows this particular structure, which is late Victorian and somewhere near Cardiff. Oil on canvas and painted plein air, as was his way. Circa 1960
