Winter Afternoon, Warkworth Dunes

Comments

I think you have created a fresh, spontaneous painting Roger and I admire your inimitable style. As I live in Amble and know the area very well, I would not have recognised this as my hometown. Perhaps a recognisable feature would have helped, not that it matters so much, as it doesn’t detract from your skilful painting.

Thanks, Carole. I discovered a completely new area on Friday. I painted a pastel at the edge of the car park next to the golf club at Warkworth. Then walked along the beach towards Amble and through the dunes to the flood plain of the Coquet. This was done from a photograph taken just a few yards from the car park. I like the emptiness. You're right that, to be commercial, I'd be well-advised to paint a view which is more familiar to the public but I'm pleased with the finished version of this.

Oh lovely scenic view and admire the spacious background as it of-sets the dunes an the flat fields with the diminutive houses far out and beyond to the airy sky.

16" x 20" oil on canvas I painted this in one session today from a photograph taken last Friday. Amble Marina is in the distance. I want it to be impressionistic. I've made myself stop before I lose the freshness. As it dries, I'm looking for an opportunity to paint just a few sharper details so that it's not too vague. Comments, please, Alan, Fiona, Marjorie or anyone else.
