Impression, Warkworth

Moving islands around. Still it looks good to me and only you and Marjorie know about the land grabbing.

It’s a good one, Roger. Full of energy. And yes, the island has floated a bit to the north. Unusually I didn’t go to the beach today, sorry I missed you!

Originally, my plan was to leave out the island. I've admired a lot of work recently with minimal content. But Coquet Island is vital to the sense of place. A small shift northwards placed it where the eye could travel, given the wind-swept trees I'd chosen.

Artist’s licence worked well😁

I'm about to look at my photos. After all these years, I've made a new discovery: the bit between the dunes and the Coquet.

Very nice indeed

You excel in pastels Roger, a fresh and lively drawing!

Thank you all. Thank you, Alan. I'll stick to pastels while the weather's suitable to work outdoors. Good job because the first shop I tried only had tubes of ready-mixed filler which wouldn't work in gesso, ha ha.

No! You’re right… it must be the powdered form. I’ve not tried Pollyfiller but as I said, Brian Ryder and also Peter Wileman both use it with household emulsion… and their work is sensational!

A fine pastel Roger and good for you getting out to paint! Love those random marks in the foreground.

12" x 17" plein-air pastel, 25th February 2022. From the edge of the car park near the golf club on this glorious, sunny day. Marjorie, you'll see that I've moved Coquet Island northwards to suit my composition.
